Kitchee secured a place in the League Cup final with a 1-0 victory over Kowloon City at Mong Kok Stadium on Wednesday (March 18).
This was the second meeting between the two teams in five days, and Kitchee made seven changes to their starting lineup. Goalkeeper Ainikaer Maihemuti made his second appearance of the season, while Thurain Tun made his first-team debut.
In the early stages, Lam Pak Yin’s cross from the right was deflected toward Kendy, whose close-range header was saved by the goalkeeper. The deadlock was broken in the 34th minute when Leandro Martínez converted a penalty he had earned himself, giving Kitchee a 1-0 lead at the break.
Kowloon City created several threatening attacks in the second half, but Maihemuti made a series of saves to maintain the lead. Kitchee also had chances to extend their advantage through a header from Roger Riera and shots from Yumemi Kanda and Adrián Revilla. Neither side managed to score again, and the match ended 1-0. Kitchee will now face Lee Man in the final.
