CUHK Medical Clinic@Kitchee

Sports science is essential at every stage of a professional football player. Accurate data analysis is used to create a tailor-made plan that takes the growth and development of individual players into consideration, thus maximising the effectiveness in their development into professional life. Advanced sports equipment helps players to train in specific areas, enhancing their performance on the pitch. Professional medical and rehabilitation supports help players overcome injuries and prolong their career.

The CUHK Medical Clinic@Kitchee is a collaboration project between Kitchee and the CUHK Faculty of Medicine to establish a sports medicine centre specifically for football, guided by the principles of sports medicine. The Medical Clinic is operated by a team of professors, specialists, and physiotherapists from the Orthopaedics and Traumatology Department of the CUHK Medical Centre to provide treatments for sports-related injuries or musculoskeletal damages.

The Medical Clinic is also capable of providing assessment on players’ physical condition with the help of innovative sports science equipment, enhancing their performance on the pitch. The Medical Clinic can perform data collection and analysis on footballers of different ages for research. The establishment of the CUHK Medical Clinic@Kitchee as a specialised sports medicine centre dedicated to football is expected to be a landmark for football development in Hong Kong.

The CUHK Medical Clinic@Kitchee has been recognised by the Asian Football Confederation as an “AFC Medical Centre of Excellence”, an accomplishment of the Medical Clinic in the injury treatment and study in the sports medicine and sports science categories.

1080 Quantum Syncro
1080 Quantum Syncro

Introduced for the first time in Hong Kong, the Quantum Syncro is used to measure and analyse player performance at strength and muscular power. Real-time data on muscular power during concentric and eccentric phases are collected for analysis.

The Quantum Syncro can provide a clear picture on the recovery process of the player. It can also help monitor a player’s power performance and recommend suitable training intensity based on the player’s fitness level and performance.

h/p/cosmos pulsar®3p Treadmill
h/p/cosmos pulsar®3p Treadmill

The h/p/cosmos pulsar®3p Treadmill can be used in tests and training that require jogging and moving from point to point. The inclination of the running surface can be adjusted based on the needs of the training, with the airwalk® system to ensure the player’s safety when running forward, backward, or side shuffle. For injured players, the airwalk® system can provide body weight support to help players run in a pain-free condition to maintain the cardio fitness level. The elastic bands can be attached to different body parts of the player to facilitate training the ability to run in multiple directions.

The built-in sensors will track fitness indicators such as the speed and heart rate during the training, as well as running posture with the help of the OptoGait system to help players improve their running efficiency and reduce chances of injuries.

NordBord Hamstring Testing System
NordBord Hamstring Testing System

The NordBord Hamstring Testing System can be used to measure the eccentric strength and isometric strength of hamstrings, and the bilateral muscle strength balance. After completing test in different angles, data on the rate of force development and force production can provide insight for potential risk of injuries such as hamstring strain and cruciate ligament sprain.

Humac Norm Isokinetic Machine
Humac Norm Isokinetic Machine

The Humac Norm Isokinetic Machine can monitor the progress of muscular power recovery on injured body parts during the rehabilitation process. The Humac Norm Isokinetic Machine allows training and assessment on specific joints and muscles under customised angular velocity. Apart from the commonly seen knee joint assessment, the Humac Norm Isokinetic Machine can also assess the strength of the hip joint and the shoulder joint, which provide players and physiotherapists with accurate information on the recovery progress, which will facilitate and expedite the rehabilitation.

VertiMax V8 Platform
VertiMax V8 Platform

Using patented techniques, the VertiMax V8 Platform allows players to train their power, agility, speed, and vertical jump performance. Players may use the platform for jumping or use the elastic bands to train specific areas such as ankles, thighs, waist, or wrists functionally.
