Matthew Slattery’s brace secured a 2-0 victory for Kitchee against Eastern District in the HKPL U-22 League FA Cup semi-final at Kowloon Bay Park on Monday (May 11).
Kitchee fielded six U-22 players in the starting lineup, including Pong Cheuk Hei, Jay Haddow, and Chan Shing Chun.
The breakthrough came in the 25th minute from a set piece. Cheng Chin Lung delivered a free kick from the left, which Slattery slid into the net to give Kitchee a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
After the break, both teams created scoring opportunities, but Kitchee eventually doubled their lead. Slattery finished off a clinical counter-attack following a well-placed long ball from Lam Pak Yin in the 82nd minute.
The 2-0 win secures Kitchee’s place in the final, where they will face HKPL U-22 League champions HKFC on the evening of May 25th.
